I tried, but I just can't seem to keep up!
If I miss a day of LJ viewing, it is very difficult to make up. It's like lost sleep!

I have to sleep for work the next two nights, but I have some pics of the finished loft bed in Evan's room.

General view.

Underneath view with green lights and futon frame showing.

More lights and snack tray attachment (it came with the bed)

Lights off, no flash. Kind of blurry but gives an idea of the effect created by the light string in the dark.

If you read my userinfo, you will see that my LJ subtitle is "Note to self: no whining, no slacking." I found this on the slats that would show under the loft as I was sanding. My sister, who introduced me to LJ, must have written this in chalk when she used the bed. I thought it was neat.

Thanks for looking!

Neato..I need to look into something like this for my kids' room. I woudl just as soon make my own since I know exaclty how I want it, but alas I don't have a garage or workshop or anything of the sorts. But I have really cool ideas...

Hey, really, all you need to build something like this is a drill with a large bit, a tape measure, a place to put the wood while you cut it, a couple of crescent wrenches to tighten all the bolts you buy from the hardware store, and a hand saw. It wouldn't even be that much work! Of course, if you wanted to sand it smooth and paint it, things get harder quick.

Hmmm. Iif THAT'S all it takes...*grin*

You can probably buy something relatively inexpensive around most campuses much like this!

Looks awesome. I was wondering what happened to my lights...hope the guys enjoy them! Just FYI...the 2x6's that form the siderails are actually supposed to be in the place of the 2x4's supporting the platform and mattress. You may want to keep that in mind if Evan and\or Josh use this when they're older. However, I had it put together the same way the whole time I used it, and it was not a problem. I'm sure it's plenty strong enough this way.

I did write that on the slats...they were above my head when I was sitting at my desk. *shrug* I liked the saying. You could probably use this picture on your userinfo page...I think it would look pretty cool there.

Anyway...I like what you did with the bed...it looks brand new. I really hope Evan enjoys it as much as I did. If that was my futon, it sucks for sitting if you're old, but the cool thing about it is that it's short and fits sideways under the loft, plus it makes into a double bed. You'll want a new mattress or a good cover on the old one though. Enjoy!!!

I think you gave us the lights, but it is possible they were left on the bed. One way or another, we felt they were intended for us. We didn't just find them in your room and take them, in other words. Do you want them? I'll send them to you if you do, just let me know.

You could probably use this picture on your userinfo page...I think it would look pretty cool there.

I agree, I'm going to do that!

Yeah, we're working on the futon solution. Not sure how we'll fix it up yet.

We are really pleased with how well the bed turned out and I think Evan really likes it. Thanks for giving it to him!

No, no, no...you can keep the lights. When I was loading up those pieces of the loft while I was home, I saw the little bracket things that held the lights and wondered where they were. I figured Dad threw them in a box or something. You're welcome to them...I hope the boys enjoy them.

You're more than welcome...I'm glad I could give it to him. :oD

aspiring2live From: aspiring2live Date: April 9th, 2005 01:14 am (UTC) (Link)
They come in a lot of different colors, I think. These were my sister's but if I can find more, I'm going to buy some, probably all different colors for both boys!

Nice bed. I especially like the light string. Very cool.

It was my sister's as well and it makes a cool bed a lot cooler.

I just keep thinking how cool I would think it would be at his age to have something like that. You're a good dad. :)
aspiring2live From: aspiring2live Date: April 9th, 2005 12:06 pm (UTC) (Link)
Thanks. Sometimes I stumble into being a cool dad, I don't think it comes too naturally. But I do try!

Well, that's the difference. You try.
