Days off = Yard work!
Last Thursday, we:

-Finished cutting and hauling all the stuff in the back yard around to the front.
-Cut the Camelia bushes from the strip between the front sidewalk and the house.

In the front yard On Sunday we:

-Tore down the ~16 foot awning over the front porch.
-Removed the aluminum railing from between the porch uprights.  You know those viney looking 70's kinda things?
-Trimmed most of the dead limbs out of our weeping cherry tree.
-Trimmed back our big spruce tree.
-Began digging the Camelia stumps out of the strip between the front sidewalk and the front of the house.
-Cleaned all dead leaves and vines, etc., out of the same strip with a rake.

Then we sat around and did NOTHING until now, and we are going to bed  (It's after 2am).

What has happened to us?  I asked my wife this as we were both sweating it out in the front yard.  I'm not sure, but I'm going to try to keep it up!

Goodness I'm sure it doesn't even look like the same place. It sounds like you've transformed it from jungle-esque to open and airy, yet shady. I wish I could've gotten in on some of that work. Congrats on a job well done.
