Where have I been?

Watching the Tour de Lance, as it were. I've been recording it on the DVR, 3 or more hours a day, and trying to keep up with it. I am amazed at the strength and skill of Lance Armstrong. He announced his retirement on July 24, the last day of this year's Tour, before the race began. This is his last professional bike race, he has said.

I hope he's smart enough to mean it. I think of Mohammed Ali and Michael Jordan as examples of many phenomenal athletes who retired at the top of their game, but then came back again and again, tarnishing their once pristine greatness. Lance can make bajillions of dollars the rest of his life off of bicycling and never even ride one again. I hope he stays retired.

I also believe he is stronger than in any of his other Tours so far. This will be number 7 if he wins, and no one has ever won 6 before he did last year, and he did it 6 years in a row! If he makes it 7 in a row, and I expect he will, I doubt it will be topped for another 100 years, if ever.

I wonder if he will make a run at any of the track records, the closed circuit rides on a track for speed? If so, the results could be interesting.

Man, I love bicycling!

That's his plan; he wants the One Hour record...clearly, he's a loon.

But damn.

And Nike did their Lance commercial just right...just video from the press conference. Incredible.

If he goes for the hour, I hope they put it on OLN. Is there something wrong with me becuase I could watch him ride a track for an hour and actually *enjoy* the commentary? Especially if it's Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen doing the commentary. Bob Roll? Not so much. "Tour DAY FrAnce" gah!

I want to strangle Bob with a chain.

If you say it like him, use 'the' not 'de'...that's all I ask.

And I have the same feelings about Ligget and Sherwin that I do about Steve Matchett on F1 racing...it's just *wrong* when someone else calls it...

Oh yeah, and the commercial is awesome, isn't it? Although I'd like an expanded one where they show him with the shaved head and scar as well. But maybe a different commercial so as not to mess up the press conference one.

Amazing achievements that I could never hope to do in my lifetime aside, Lance Armstrong really is kind of a butthole.

Ahhh, Jay. Ever the counter-culturalist, eh? Don't worry, there's no threat of yellow becoming the new black.

If sticking to my convinctions makes me a counter-culturalist, then guilty as charged. Lance Armstrong can go piss up a rope, dude!

What are your convictions about this? I'm curious. I remember we spoke a little about this last year. So, enlighten me.

Well..and I know quite well that none of this is really any of my business, but going along with the notion that since Lance Armstrong is a public figure, I'll go ahead and state my opinion:

Thing is, after Lance Armstrong beat cancer and won the Tour de France the first time, he dumped the wife that stood by him during the whole process for Sheryl Crow.

Yeah, there's probably a lot more to the story than that, certainly..but those are the facts, and they're darned suspicious facts, at that.

I made a seperate post about this. I checked it out.

Yeah..

Oh well, the version I told is how I always heard it, from more than a couple of different people. But if it isn't true, it isn't true. :)
