It's all about perspective...
Yesterday, the sky fell.

Okay, so no one was injured, no major loss of property was involved, and the laptop survived, er, I mean was totally destroyed! Yesterday at about 3:45pm our living room ceiling, which has been cracking for awhile, and which I had shored up with a 2x4 brace, collapsed. It ain't pretty folks.

This is a 1951 plaster ceiling, folks. None of that wussy lightweight drywall stuff!

First, the section that fell.

The spot where it landed. Can you say, "Blown-in insulation?"

The lovely mantle.

The less-than-totally-successful shore-up job. Note saved TV and imminent danger.

My favorite couch is under here. Allie and I both frequently nap on this couch!
That small wooden table that you can see partially buried (that kind of looks like the
back of a chair) sitting right in front of the couch is where my laptop was sitting.

Pull up a chair and watch us clean...

Here I'll turn on a lamp for ya... uuuuuh, maybe not.

So, any guesses what I'll be doing for the next few WEEKS?

Lessons taken from this:

Lesson the first: No procrastination on important things like repair work, etc. Especially so I can sit on the couch and watch TV!! Yes, I've taken this event as a sign from a higher power (in my case, God).

Lesson the second: Don't use blow-in insulation!

Lesson the third: Perhaps the most important - Declutter!

Current Location: NOT the living room!
Current Mood: Meh
Current Music: REM - Fall On Me

Yep, we're okay. BUT, man do I miss chillin' to some good TV on a comfy couch!

Yikes! What a mess! I always imagined that blow-in insulation was really light. I guess not, huh?

I'm glad nobody got dumped on. :)

Oh, the blow-in insulation IS really light, which is why it is all in the air and we are coughing like crazy! It's the plaster that is some kind of heavy!

Like Allie said, the insulation is light, VERY light. Like float all through the house and settle on any horizonal surface light. But the plaster is deadly heavy.

Nice!!! and disgusting. Ug. Maybe you should just go for the "rafter" look...er in that one spot. Oh wait, you already are, um, hmmm. Good luck wit that.

It is a HUGE mess. We are not happy.

Yeah, it looks like you are about to learn a new skill...or something. Seriously though, the rafter look is underated. Shouldn't that insulation stuff be in the attic?

Holy Wuh!

Good luck with that, eh?

You're jealous, I bet! Okay, not. We had an insurance aduster come out and we will be having a professional cleaning service and repairs done through our insurance. I'm so glad, as I can't imagine having to do all that myself!

Ay yi yi...
aspiring2live From: aspiring2live Date: June 4th, 2006 06:39 am (UTC) (Link)
Yeah, I was kind of hoping the aduster would just total out the house, like they do cars, and let us move somewhere else! Ha!
