One of the saddest days in memory for me...
Let me start by saying that I'm sure this pales in comparison to some of you, who are having struggles I can't begin to understand right now. But since this is my journal, this is about me. Well, no, it is about my dog, Spanky. It's time. He turned 16 in February. We've had him nearly as long as we've been married. Today, we are taking him to the vet for the last time. More later...

I will probably post something a bit longer on this later, if I can. I would like to do a tribute with a brief history and some pics. Maybe it will help.

Pain is pain... and loosing a friend of 16 years is awfully painful.

*hugs*

I'm sad that you have to say goodbye to your friend today. The only consellation I could give is that, you know as well as I do, that this is for the best, and you're doing him an important service by making this as painless for him as possible.

But still, I'm sorry. :(

Yes, you are right. And, it was a lot less painful for him than it was for my wife and me.

Thanks, Jay.

I am so sorry my man... I can totally sympathize. Keep in mind that the pain you feel is in direct proportion to all the love you have shared over the years, so I know it is going to hurt.

But you know what they say... All dogs go to heaven.

I know you can relate, Michael. As I recall, your baby before you had Emily, and still, I imagine, is a French Bulldog named Dixie. Oh, and since you mentioned Heaven, here's a quote from Billy Graham's website.

"God will provide us with everything we need to be happy in Heaven -- and if animals are necessary to make us completely happy there, then you can be confident He will arrange for them to be with us.

Some Bible scholars have pointed out that the Bible suggests there may be animals in Heaven -- but without the aggressiveness and dangers that are part of their lives now. The prophet Isaiah saw God's coming Kingdom as a place of absolute peace, where even animals that had once been enemies will be friends. He wrote, "The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them" (Isaiah 11:6)."

I know I come from a different religion, but, for what it is worth, I believe that too. Animals love, anyone whos had a dog knows that. God is Love. God is never destroyed, love is never detroyed, dogs are love... dog is never detroyed? Ok, corney way to put it but yes, I think so too.

Oh, Bruce. I am so very sorry. You've lost a friend, companion, and family member. That's gotta hurt a whole lot. (I have two elderly cats, and I am dreading the day when I have to make a post like this.) My condolences...
