Watching the Tour de Lance, as it were. I've been recording it on the DVR, 3 or more hours a day, and trying to keep up with it. I am amazed at the strength and skill of Lance Armstrong. He announced his retirement on July 24, the last day of this year's Tour, before the race began. This is his last professional bike race, he has said.
I hope he's smart enough to mean it. I think of Mohammed Ali and Michael Jordan as examples of many phenomenal athletes who retired at the top of their game, but then came back again and again, tarnishing their once pristine greatness. Lance can make bajillions of dollars the rest of his life off of bicycling and never even ride one again. I hope he stays retired.
I also believe he is stronger than in any of his other Tours so far. This will be number 7 if he wins, and no one has ever won 6 before he did last year, and he did it 6 years in a row! If he makes it 7 in a row, and I expect he will, I doubt it will be topped for another 100 years, if ever.
I wonder if he will make a run at any of the track records, the closed circuit rides on a track for speed? If so, the results could be interesting.
Man, I love bicycling!
