On another sport...did you catch Levi's massive time trial? He can review if for years, but he'll never find that 31 seconds...that was an amazing, if fruitless run. Maybe third fastest behind Indurain (the machine) and LeMond (easy course)

Just amazing

You know, I was hanging tough with the 3 plus hours A DAY of coverage for the first 11 stages or so, but then, due to real life obligations, I started losing ground. Still, I was keeping the recordings with the intention of watching ALL of it as time permitted.

It was a nice Tour till around Stage 8 when the sprinters started getting dropped. Then, Vinokourov couldn't recover from his fall and was dragging. I started to lose enthusiasm. Worst was when I heard after Stage 15 WHOLE TEAMS were withdrawing. Every name I was really interested in (Except Leipheimer) was gone. I couldn't bring myself to watch HOURS and HOURS of racers I knew were now gone, so in a juvenile fit of dissatisfaction, I deleted it all.

Now, I would have liked to see Levi do well, but 3rd place AFTER all the big boys were gone just isn't that dynamic a ride. However, I would still watch the TT if I had it because that's such a great event in itself, it stands apart from the overall race.

Now we get to the bottom of it all. Truthfully, without Lance, the luster is gone for me. In the same way, basketball lost all draw for me after Jordan retired the first time. I enjoy the magic of seeing a truly phenomenal athlete perform, but after that, the sport seems so much less than it was during their prime.

I count myself one of the fortunate to have watched nearly every minute of Lance's last two Tours. Wow, that was special. Like Jordan, he made the competition look like they didn't belong in the big leagues. I hadn't experienced that kind of magic in sports since I was a kid watching the 1980 Olympics. I watched the games leading up to the Miracle On Ice and I watched that game. We beat the Russians! It was an amazing time, and I've never watched a whole hockey game since.

But that's just me. ;-)
